By now you are aware of the new JK Rowling website, PotterMore.com. It’s been running the Internet insane trying to figure out what the hell it is. When it launched last Friday it simply had a splash screen with an owl saying “coming soon”.

Since then people have been going ape shit about what it is. What we know for sure: it is NOT another book. Rowling and her publicist have both been quoted as the world of Harry Potter is finished with novels. There will be no more books. Before our podcast last week on PODOCALYPSE, FuckingBob was saying that JK Rowling was mad for not following in the footsteps of Lucas by allowing the authors to lavishly expand on the universe in their own books.
While everyone has their own theory about what PotterMore is, I have colelcted a few of the ideas that I think are quite plausible:
1. A Harry Potter encyclopedia
This could be some thing of a reference site. Linda Holmes at NPR has mentioned, that “Rowling has mentioned more than once” that she’d like to put out “a comprehensive reference tome of the wizarding world of Hogwarts,” says Stubby the Rocket at Tor.com. Pottermore could be an announcement about that encyclopedia — or it could actually be that encyclopedia, like “a wiki-style information portal.”
2. A spin-off site for secondary characters
One thing I love about what Harry Potter, the books and movies, have done is the expansive ever-growing mythos of the 2nd tier characters. Rowling has said on numerous occasions that she has created back stories for every character she has written about. Perhaps this is where FuckingBob’s idea could come into play.
3. A Video Game
While we here at My Remote Radio are all very aware, and sometimes too aware of the world of MMOs, our readers might not be. An MMO is a Massive Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game (sometimes called an MMORPG). Games like Everquest, World of Warcraft and Star Wars: Old Republic fall into this category. Isn’t it about time we get a Harry Potter MMO? How awesome would that be?
4. A Social Network for Fans
Without a doubt, the fucking lamest theory out there is the social network concept. Not so much that who ever thought up the theory of a social network being lame, but rather with all these other great ideas floating around and this is the one the go with, I would be very fucking disappointed. Imagine a website, similar to BookFace or MySpace only all Harry Potter themed. Yeah it would be cool for a week or so, but it would lose it’s luster and just become that site where you go “uuuhhh, you’re still on that page, you pedophile?”
5. The e-Book Releases
Another really shitty idea. There is a theory that this site might be hype for the e-Book releases. The e-Books have been a long time coming and something I guess people might want, but making this much hype and hoopla over it would be exceedingly lame. When asked about this possibility, JK Rowling’s publicist has not denied anything. This would be a huge dump on the fans. In a bad way.
6. A New Theme Park
Could this be about a new Potter park coming to the U.K.? A place “where fans can unite and bask in butterbeer and magical merriment for the rest of their days?” wonders Wigler at MTV Movies. There’s already one in Orlando, so “a second park doesn’t seem all that likely,” says Gornstein at E! Online. Why the hell not? Magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter has already grossed itself back into the black, might as well expand.
7. A Real Wizarding school
Come on: You know magic is real,” says Wigler. So does Rowling. “It was only a matter of time before she pulled the curtain back all the way and started her very own Hogwarts. Start prepping those admissions packets now, wizards-in-training!” Gotta make that dollar-dollar! And you have to admit, this would make a fucking fortune!!
What do you think it is?

My money is on a new book series about the kids of Harry Potter. You just know JK wants more of that sweet sweet nerd money!
