ElecTRONica Concept Art
Those of you readers who frequent our blog daily, aka the favorites, are probably aware that I’m a bit of a Universal fan. But you might be shocked to learn that that hasn’t always been the case.
Growing up as a blond haired, blue eyed, oddly Aryan looking child come to think of it…I was 100% Disney.
(Pausing for gasp)
I just couldn’t get enough of the Mouse! I had the stuffed animals, the sketch books, the t-shirts, every Disney movie on VHS, oh so many toys. Hell, I even wanted to be a Disney Animator. A dream that One-Sheet and I actually shared growing up. That is until my dream died when I toured their world renowned Animation building when I was 12 and saw nothing but dead eyed artists drawing the same picture over and over again, only slightly different. In the words of Charlie Brown…Argggggg!
The promise of that much sheer mind numbing repetitive creativity was enough for me to just throw that dream in the bin and take the “digital” road to working in the film industry. Never the less though, my love for the Mouse lived on.
That is until I hit that age, around 13, when I was self aware enough to suddenly notice on one of our family trips to Disney World that I was closer to adult than kid anymore. Ok, I was still a kid, but I didn’t wipe my nose on my sleeve anymore unlike the rest of the rug rats running around the park. The fact that TGIF had just been canceled didn’t help either. So…I jumped ship over to Universal and didn’t look back.
Now this was all a long way of getting to the fact that my mouse love is starting to regrow thanks to the following concept art released for Disneyland’s “ElecTRONica”!
What is happening to me?!?!?!?!
This new, and very neon, nighttime park area will be in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot as well as the main entrance. And will even include a Flynn’s Arcade! And you know what the best part is? I’m going to be able to see it! That’s right, I’m going to be in LA while this promotional event is happening, and I’m going to see it with my very own eyes!
Now this isn’t a whole post just to trick you into listening to me gloat, though that would be pretty funny. Because you can see it too if you stop by the Disney California Adventure park starting October 8th! That’s right, from then on visitors can see the transformation on the weekends and then every freakin’ night between Thanksgiving and Christmas!
Just color me pumped. The official announcement is below.
As they say in the digital world of TRON, “Greetings, Programs!” Today, we’re sharing concept art that gives you a first look at the new party we’re calling ElecTRONica. I’m told it’s the greatest nighttime dance party to ever rock Disney California Adventure park.
Beginning October 8, the interactive, digital world of “TRON: Legacy” will light up Hollywood Pictures Backlot as we gear up for the film’s release on December 17. This will be a cool opportunity to peek inside the world of this movie, and it’s available only to visitors of Disney California Adventure park.
It’s an “electrifying” experience for the entire family, filled with music, lights and some of your favorite food and beverage, all set amidst the captivating world of “TRON: Legacy!” From a dazzling dance club under the stars to an authentic recreation of Flynn’s Arcade to some radical gaming, it’s like nowhere else on the grid! Each night, we’ll feature live entertainers, complete with lasers, glow accessories and the hottest music ever to rock the grid. ElecTRONica is “the” place to dance the night away in a fantastic world that only Disney can create. Highlights for the entire family will definitely be Flynn’s Video Arcade, face painting and the TRON: Evolution video game area.
ElecTRONica will transform Disney California Adventure park Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays this Fall. TRON fans and families can also enjoy the party seven days a week during Thanksgiving week and Christmas week.
Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog, as we’ll be sharing additional details soon, and if you want to stay up-to-date with the latest happenings on ElecTRONica, follow us on Twitter, @Disneyland.
