World+War+Z+Movie

New Line announced the release of the Extended edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy on Blu Ray.  Fucking finally.  And just a heads up, “limited” doesn’t mean shit.  Yeah, limited to 3,000,000 copies. Amazon has set the pre-order at $84 for the 9-disc set.  Yeah, the Blu Rays of the extended cuts are gonna be worth it, but there is NOTHING new on the set from the DVD release in 2004.

I’m still going to buy it, just a little let down that all the special features are on DVD and all of them are the ones I already own.  No release date has been set yet, however Amazon has stated “sometime 2011 or 2012.”  Great, narrowed down.

Script Shadow reviews Michael J. Straczynsky screenplay adaptation of Max Brooks novel World War Z:

“The great thing about World War Z is … It’s different. It’s really different. In fact, you can’t believe you’re actually reading an international procedural about the investigation of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. That alone kept me turning the pages, because I just had no idea where it was all going. I say it to you guys all the time but here’s more proof of it. Find an angle to a genre that hasn’t been done before. Assuming the concept is solid and the execution is there, you’ve put yourself way above your competition because you’ve given readers something they rarely see – SOMETHING DIFFERENT. At the same time, I can see why they’re having some problems with this one. The lack of any imminent danger for any of the major participants in the story, namely from…well…zombies, is probably having some studio execs scratching their heads.”

    Iron Man 3 script sneaks

By now, you know that Shane Black is the director of Iron Man 3, the creator of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.  But what you might not have known is that he is also going to write the IR3 script.  This could be very good.

Recently, Black said that the script will be more along the lines of a Tom Clancy thriller than a suped-up armor smashing action brawler.  Which I am happy about.  I fucking hated Iron Man 2.  It was beyond retarded.

However, the one thing that Black says that I am quite upset about is that Marvel films after The Avengers are going back to a one superhero story.  He has no plans of putting any other super heroes or villains in part 3.  This pisses me off.  One of the best parts of the Marvel comics, or even DC comics for that matter is the fact that this is a living, breathing world full of people and interweaving stories.  This is why I have such huge problems with the films before X-Men 2.  It may just be the nerd in me but seeing those names on the board when Mystique was scrolling through records just made me believe that “HOLY FUCK!  They are actually wanting us to believe that this is the Mavel world and not just some film exec’s idea of what a super hero movie should be like.”  Then Iron Man had cameos and other shit and I felt like they were truly trying to show us a glimpse of what the universe really is, and not just “a movie.”  So this piece of news really upsets me.  I don’t give two living fucks about one individual hero.  No hero in the Marvel or DC realm has enough to keep my attention for a whole movie.  They need to interweave their stories with others.

Fuck.  So IR3 can be really good or it could just fail as bad as IR2. We’ll see.

    Runblewick is optioned by Dreamworks

With Dreamworks swimming in their own shit with sequel after sequel after sequel lined up to be released, it seems that they have an inclination of a good thought with the adaptation of the kids’ book My Unwilling Witch (The Rumblewick Letters) by Hiawyn Oram and Sarah Warburton, which tells of a witch’s cat whose owner no longer wants to be a witch.

It is being written by Tim Johnson (Antz) and Jim Herzfeld (Meet the Parents… which is a very bad omen) with Tim Johnson directing. According to a press release, “Rumblewick will follow the adventures of a magician’s rabbit for whom the invitation to learn real magic and train as a witch’s familiar seems like a dream come true! But the dream becomes a nightmare when he discovers he’s really a pawn in a game between rival witches. Having learned the hard way that when something seems too good to be true it probably is, he must outsmart them both to save his fuzzy little hide.”
