Johnny Depp Is Freaking AWESOME

ZZ5192706C

The Daily Mail UK has quite the cool story today.  Nine-year-old pupil Beatrice Delap wrote to Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow asking for help staging a ‘mutiny’ against the teachers at her school.  Depp was nearby the school, shooting for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at a local 18th Old Naval College.  He decided to swing by Beatrice’s school and giving the school a heads up of his arrival 10 minutes prior to his arrival.

Not only did he show up to surprise the little girl, but he came in full costume and make up.  check out the photo and the letter wrote to him.

This Is Why The IT Crowd Rules

1421148200_fb962c6cb4

I think everyone knows that I am a huge IT Crowd fan.  The nerd humor mixed with a great cast, and just ridiculous plot lines keeps me laughing at the same thing for months at a time, but this is the ultimate.

If you haven’t watched season 4 of IT Crowd yet I shed a tear for you and ask, “Why the eff not?”.  It is absolute gloriousness.  Yes, GLORIOUSNESS!

Let me tell you why.  In the first episode “Jen the Fredo”, Roy has been dumped and is really struggling to come to terms with it.  Moss is trying to not only comfort him, but put together the best RPG experience known to man, sound effects and all.  All the while Jen is trying to get promoted to a position normally held by men in the company.

Still not enticed?  What if I told you all three of these excellent plot points seamlessly blend together in Moss’ perfect RPG experience.

That’s what I thought.

Now, get ready to have your mind blown.  Boingboing did a post the other day about the release of the season 1-4 box set for the IT Crowd, and all it’s fixins.  Besides awesome comedy, you get a flipping double sided RPG board game!  On one side, the board is laid out like the IT department office at Reynholm Industries. The other side transforms the layout of the IT department office into a fantasy world where Moss and Roy’s office becomes the ‘Great Hall of Heroes,’ and Jen’s office becomes the ‘Lair of Aunt Irma.’

Who doesn’t love that picture of Maurice the destroyer?

Everyone must buy this today!!!!!!  Also, watch Moss’ video on Amazon.

Entertainment Earth

So you might be asking yourself, “Self, something looks new on the My Remote Radio site.”  Yes, self, you are correct, something is new on the site.  I’m sure everyone has noticed that we have a few advertisements on the site, and we thank you for clicking on them!  These are great opportunities for us to help get the word out about awesome product we think you will love, and help build partnerships to be able to do contests with really cool product.

Our newest banners is for a website called Entertainment Earth.  This site is the epitome of geek swag.  I can guarantee you that if you look over all your prop replicas, action figures, and even just small memorabilia, Entertainment Earth sells it.  From Battlestar Galactica to Star Trek and Doctor Who, Entertainment Earth has so much that it seriously blows my mind.  I spent 2 hours on their site today just looking at all the cool stuff on there.

We all here at My Remote Radio can vouch for their product.  I personally have several Doctor Who items, and some Star Trek ones as well.  These are high quality pieces, that look absolutely sick on a bookshelf, office desk, wherever you want to keep them.  I think my two favorite pieces have to be my 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver, my electronic TARDIS bank, and my Wrath Of Khan enterprise.  Check out some of my personal pics below.

Eerie Findings In Movies From My Childhood

eerieindiana1

I’ve been told that I have a keen eye for recognizing random small stars in movies.  Whether it be the presence of Richard Speight Jr. (aka The Trixster from Supernatural) in the movie Demonic Toys, or a major star in a terrible B movie, I have an insane ability to recognize faces.  My folks used to say, “If only you could remember math like you did movies, you’d be solving world problems!”  I’m not disagreeing…but this is more exciting, and it lead everyone up to this very post.

Speight Jr.

Last night I was THRILLED when I saw that Matinee was up on Instant Queue on Netflix (the most addicting thing on the planet).  I hadn’t thought of that movie in years! All I could remember was John Goodman was a movie impresario and showed much more than movies.  He was promoting a monster flick and was putting buzzers in the seats…it was called Atomo Vision.

Other than that the movie was a total blur to me.  As I re-watched it last night I realized that it really reminded me of watching an episode of a great Saturday morning horror show, Eerie Indiana.  Then, low and behold, there was it’s star Omri Katz!

“Woah, woah, woah, wait a minute…” I said to myself as I checked the crew credits.  Directed by Joe Dante of Gremlins fame, also the creator of Eerie Indiana!  Things were starting to make sense…and then my world got blown.

There is a scene when the main character and his brother go to the movies.  A “normal” movie is playing, about a woman’s father who had been turned into a shopping cart.  Obviously a pun on movies like Herbie and The Shaggy Dog, since those were really popular in the early 60s.  Something seemed familiar about that movie.  No, it wasn’t the terrible spoof dialogue, no, it wasn’t the awful cinematography…it was the woman acting in the spoof.

It was Naomi Watts!

Holy crap I was in disbelief!  I even double checked her IMDB just to be sure.  I was right.

It’s these awesome finds that make the movie experience that much better!  I’m still a little dumbfounded by my discovery, are you?

What is the oddest “famous” find you ever saw in a movie from your past?

Craving A Burger? Try Cheesy Beards!

cheesy_beards_logo_300_418

In episode 9 of The Guild, Pirate Paddy, Codex and Bladezz debut the advert for local burger joint Cheesy Beards.  What was to follow was one of the most hilarious, low budget pieces of work I’d ever seen in my life…and it totally makes me want to eat there.

Felicia Day give a little more insight on her blog into the creation of the hilarious commercial.

Oh boy. I remember in the script, all I had as a description was: “Worst Commercial EVER. Bladezz as a pirate. Terrible lighting and camerawork, just awful in every way. Ends with “Taste My Pirate Paddy.”

How could it get any better than that?  How about the fact that they released an extended spot just for the joy of us viewers!

After you watch the commercial you’ll notice there is a real phone number on here.  Now I haven’t worked up the stones to call it yet, so if anyone does please tell me who you get.

The Booty Burger

Two other Cheesy Beards goodies that are out on the internet are the Cheesy Beards Yelp page, where you can write up a quick review on their service, and just how good Bladezz’s cooking skills are.  Also they have a menu that boasts the delicious Peg-Leg Mac and Cheese, Pu-Pu Deck Platter, and my personal favorite Syphilis and Scallops.

So support The Guild, swing over to Cheesy Beards, get some food and watch episode 9 right now!

Also….Taste my pirate paddy!

Geek Art Is Awesome!

Jude-Buffum-You-Say-Yes-

Geek-Art.net is a website you’ve probably never heard of, but is one you should be visiting as much as possible.  They have posted artwork people do of some of the coolest movies and shows from our childhood.  From superheroes to The Goonies and Ghostbusters, they have it all.

Just recently they launched their “second season” of the site. Their opening post was from an art show in LA called 3g.  All the art prints on display were from three classic movies.  The Goonies, Ghostbusters, and Gremlins (you see where the 3g comes into play).

All these prints are available for purchase on the Gallery 1988 website.   I’ve selected just a few of my favorites, so swing over to Geek Art and Gallery 1988 for the rest and to make your purchases!

Working NES Coffee Table

500x_nesconsole

So I’m not sure of the name of this amazing table’s creator, but damn this is the coolest thing ever.

It’s a coffee table that has been made as a giant working replica of an original NES system.  Geek out!

Not only does the cartridge lid open to reveal a larger NES controller, but the controller ports also work!  Each one houses outlets where you can plug in your laptop or cellphone!

Yeah that larger sized NES remote I mentioned, it’s a fully functioning replica….that’s wireless!  How awesome is that?

Check out the full Flickr stream for more photos, or to beg him for an instructable.

VHS Gadget Skins

ZZ18A54699small

The very moment I saw this art it warped me back to when I was a kid.  When we had shelves and small bookcases filled with VHS tapes with hand written movie titles, all taped off of network television or HBO.  All of them littered with those stickers that came with every blank tape (T-120, Master, BASF, TC, and more).  Check out Hollis Brown Thornton’s wicked line of throw back gadget art.

A Sonic Wii Remote!

500x_drwhocontroller

You read that right.  Just when I thought that the Wii was a system merely made to collect dust and play 8-bit games only, they wow me.

I think as all our readers know I’m a HUGE Doctor Who nut, and this product, pictured below, makes me giddy.  It’s a Sonic Screwdriver Wii Remote!  To be more specific, an 11th doctor Wii remote.

This fall the popular show will be immortalized in the form of video games.  Doctor Who: Return to Earth will release this fall for Wii, and Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth will release for DS, complete with Sonic Stylus.

I better dust off my Wii, snag a TARDIS skin for it, and get my bow tie ready, because this is going to be phenomenal!

If Left For Dead Was An NES Shooter

This is awesome.  Not only because they make Left 4 Dead look like Gideon’s Alley…but because they sandwiched it between two commercials I totally remember!  This is epic!

Bruce Campbell Talks To LA Times

mynameispic2

Everybody’s favorite B-movie star took some time off TV’s #1 show nobody knows anything about Burn Notice, to sit down with Gina McIntyre over at the LA Times to talk about the newest Blu-ray release of Evil Dead.

His interview is filled with classic Campbell whit, great advice, and sincere honesty about the Evil Dead franchise and all those different versions Anchor Bay puts out.   Honestly, even though I said I would never buy another version, I really want this Blu-ray transfer now.
