Foreign Remakes

halka-image-1

Everyone knows that other countries rip off other country’s ideas.  By now you are aware of such fucking terrible remakes in the US like The Grudge, The Ring, Pulse, Lake House, The Eye, Death At A Funeral, and so much more.  Granted there are a few good ones (Departed from Infernal Affairs…. and that’s about it).   So today, I found a trailer for a Bangladesh version of The Hulk., wonderfully named HALKa.

Check out the HALKa trailer as well as some of my favorite foreign remake failures from US films to the shores and mountains of other countries who shouldn’t be trying to make movies.

Proof once again you should let your friends act in your movie,  have the guy down the street who owns a PC computer and a bootleg copy of After Effects do your FX work, and have the mentally handicapped write your scripts.

Freakanomics Trailer

freakonomics

When they first announced this as a movie, I was taken aback.  If you even read one chapter of the book, you would know the same feeling I had.  However, now that the trailer is out and we see it’s a documentary I can fully gather up the concept of a film based on the book.

The book is a really enjoyable read that matches up facts and statistics in a very weird way.  Watch the trailer, you’ll see what I am talking about.

Scott Pilgrim Trailer Via The Comics

scott_pilgrim

Everyone knows by now that Scott Pilgrim is going to destroy faces like faces have never been destroyed before.  Everyone knows that this is going to be a huge step for comic-book movies, just like Road to Perdition was.  In short, it’s gonna fucking rock socks.  So why have so few people read the damn comics?

Here’s a jump start to you pud-whackers who haven’t picked up the amazing Bryan Lee O’Malley books.  By the way, once you’re done loving Scott Pilgrim like a nice day at home with the doors locked and free wifi access from next door so you can download tons of free porn and not get traced, be sure….no…FUCKING BUY his other books: Lost At Sea and Hopeless Savages Ground Zero.

Scott Pilgrim’s New Ad Campaign

scott

In the infinite wisdom of advertising, Universal has attempted to market Scott Pilgrim to a wider audience.

Lol.  As if I would ever side with a movie company’s mass marketing thought process.  This was a fan created video.  However, it would be a pretty clever vid, if they would take out Michael Cera’s name.  This movie might change my opinion of the guy, but in all honesty he’s the only one in the cast that I am not 100% on.

In a fun side note – There is a new game/app for the iPhone and iWhatTheFuckerEverSinceIDon’tOwnOne.  It’s Scott Pilgrim’s Punch Out. Check it out here.

New Interactive “Scott Pilgrim” Trailer is Diabolical

7-evil-ex-boyfriends-scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world-575x323

Evil ex-boyfriends…evil twins week. They just goes hand in hand don’t you think?

The new interactive “Scott Pilgrim” trailer came out today, and it pretty much destroyed my entire afternoon. There are so many cool behind the scenes content packed into this little web app that DVD’s and Blu-rays should really hang their heads in shame. I feel kind of spoiled actually. I mean if they’re putting this much thought / innovation / and content into something that’s usually just a 3 minute wam bam thank you ma’m experience, I think my head is going to explode when I finally get to see this movie next week! Let alone when the the Blu-Ray drops!

I dare say that this trailer has made my evil heart grow three sizes larger today. And I don’t like it. But…I just…can’t…fight it! It’s so well done, and truly gives you an experience that I don’t want you to miss out on. So check it out before all this goodness oozes out of me and I have the evil strength again to push the internet’s self destruct button.

Err, I mean…NOT to push the internet’s self destruct button. Ya, that’s what I meant. So don’t worry about. Just watch the pretty shiny trailer below!

Scott Pilgrim VS the Animation

scott-pilgrim

While I’m not so much a fan of this movie, I know Junk is loving it and since he is away doing evil things (even though he’s the good one) I thought it would be wise to share this with you all so he doesn’t beat me with his “wiffle-ball-bat of doom.”

Scott Pilgrim vs the Animation airs Thursday August 12th in two parts between 12 and 12:30 am, inside commercial breaks on [adult swim]. It will also be available in full on adultswim.com, and on the [adult swim] and Scott Pilgrim Facebook pages the day after it airs. (I.e. the day of the movie’s release.)

Priest (Trailer)

There are some trailers where I just don’t question what the plot may be, sometimes I just like to sit back and enjoy something.  And this is just that.  Is it art?  Hardly.  It looks like a B Movie with a budget.

Cat Shit One – I shit you not

cat-shit-one-poster

About a year or so ago I saw this weird, obscure trailer online.  It was beautiful animation.  It was an anthropomorphic war film trailer.  Instead of humans in fatigues and AR15s, they were bunnies. And it was fucking awesome!

While the trailer is awesome and can be seen below, I just got to watch the full episode / short film / whatever they are calling it. And it is freaking sick. The story moves at a great pace, you actually start to like the characters (and for a 25 minute war scene that is saying a lot), the animation is beautiful, and don’t worry mom and dad, there is no violence when the camels are shot in the face. No blood, you say? None. No emptied heads. No shrapnel-ripping disembowelments, but instead of pissing me off like this normally does, I found it oddly endearing to the story.

The short film / pilot episode is really amazing. When it finally comes out, check it out. It’s really impressive on all of the attributes that went into making it. The voice acting is just phenomenal and utterly believable from start to finish… and let me say this now so fucktard rednecks out there don’t get bent out of shape. This is a Japanese TV show. Hence, its in Japanese. And while we’re on that subject, check out some of that wacky Japanese TV, just for cat-shits and giggles.

Whachu Looking At Sucka?

I need this for work.

With 300, Watchmen, and Dawn of the Dead under his belt, and Legend of the Guardians on the slip of being released, Zack Snyder’s new film Sucker Punch looks just as awesome as his previous films. And the posters have just been released.

For visual style Zack Snyder makes a damn crisp film. While not a big fan of 300 I still loved the visual story telling. I loved Watchmen, even though many would disagree with me. And as far as remakes go, Dawn of the Dead was one of the best I have seen, aside from All Quiet on the Western Front and The Thing. So when Zack Snyder’s name comes up as a director, I can’t help but sit up and pap a little more attention.

His new film, Sucker Punch, sounds like a really cool concept. Starring Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Emily Browning, Scott Glenn, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung, in the story about Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is trapped and confined in a mental institution. Here she fantasizes about an alternate reality, in a hope of mental escapism. . Browning and the other girls are all wards of the institution in which Browning is trying to find a handful of objects that will allow her to escape. Snyder has said many times that the film will be a dark, violent fantasty full of guns, action and monsters. Well, after looking at the trailer and the posters, I couldn’t be happier and more excited.

Check out these wicked posters, click on them for a bigger size, and follow to the bottom for the trailer.

Sharktopus Trailer Just Made Landfall!

RogerCormanSharktopus1-thumb-550x335-33591

We’ve been waiting for close to a year now to see whether or not Roger Corman’s latest masterpiece “Sharktopus” would be a half octopus / half shark. Or a half shark / half octopus? Well wait no more! And it even has an awesome theme song.

“Sharktopus won’t be kept at bayyyy…”

Thank you Mr. Corman, and thank you Syfy. This is so awesomely bad.

First Trailer for “Let Me In”…Is Actually Good!

LetMeIn3

Let The Right One In, is one of our favorite horror films in recent memory.

So when we heard that it was going to the US remake route, needless to say we were worried. And pissed. But mostly worried. It had only been 2 years since the original’s theatrical release and 6 months since it’s DVD debut state-side when the announcement ax fell. The timing just made it feel not only like a slap in the face to the film’s original story tellers, but also to the fans who had fallen in love with this gem of a film from Sweden. Oh, and then they changed the title. WTF.

But then some rays of hope started streaming in. Cloverfield director Matt Reeves took on the project, the casting of Chloe Moretz as the hermaphroditic child vamp Abby, and now the first trailer…

YouTube Preview Image

Let me stop now to say though that trailers can be misleading. This movie still could turn out to be giant vampire turd, whatever a vampire turd would look like that is. Though from what I can glean from these one minute and sixteen seconds, the FEEL is still there. The color palette, the tone, the pacing. It all feels very much like it’s Swedish sibling. The question of whether or not it’ll have the same twisted morality is yet to be seen though. But, and I never thought I’d say this, either way I’m getting pretty excited for this film. It might just stand on it’s own while paying respect to the original. Which is the best you can hope for in a sequel honestly.

Now I’ll finish this post with a plea. If you haven’t already seen the original…PLEASE…for the love of god, check it out before you see this US remake. You’ll thank me later.

P.S. Ok, ever since I wrote the whole “vampire turd” part I can’t get that image out of my mind. What would a vampire turd look like anyways? They don’t consume solid foods, so would their number 2′s be just a giant bloody mess? That’s the only thing I can figure. I mean it would at least be as bloody of a mess as we get after eating two Chipotle burritos, right? This is assuming that they poop at all though. Maybe they don’t have to, since they are undead. *sigh* I don’t know. Maybe some questions just shouldn’t be answered.

Let’s see True Blood tackle this one damn it!

Red Dead Short Film?

johnhillcoat

This is definitely the coolest thing I’ve read so far today.

John Hillcoat, the director of “The Road” and the Australian outback western “The Proposition”, has sweeded a short film together using nothing but assets from my current game addiction, “Red Dead Redemption”. And will be premiering this 30 min game cinematic on steroids June 5, 2011 on FOX!

The usual “Check your local listings” disclaimer still applies, but this is something fans of the game can not miss. I’m so excited to see what a film maker of Hillcoat’s caliber does with the best western game ever made. Yep…I said it. THE BEST. Contest is over, Red Dead wins.

Could this mean Hillcoat might even be interested in making this into a feature? We’ll see. There’s just so much great source material to draw from, I wouldn’t be surprised.

New Scott Pilgrim Trailer!

new_scott_pilgrim

The new “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” trailer keeps making this film look better and better.

Not only do we get to see glimpses of some new, and frankly BADASS, 8-bit inspired fight scenes. But the trailer also gives us our first “Wait…is that a Culkin? Oh my god, it is. Kieran Culkin! Weird. But sweet!” moment. Which is the film world equivalent of seeing a unicorn now a days.

Are you guys getting as excited as I am to see this new Edgar Wright film-tacular?
