1976 Comic Con Fans See Star Wars for the First Time
![]()
These days, Comic-Con draws more than 125,000 fans to San Diego, and Hall H, where the blockbusters are born, is always packed. But back in 1976, only a couple of hundred fans turned out to watch the first public showing of Star Wars footage.
According to Craig Miller, former head of fan relations at Lucasfilm, there were many empty seats.
“There weren’t a lot of people there,” he said. “A few hundred, maybe? The reaction was mixed. At first, skepticism. When you have a group of fans devoted to any one genre, like science fiction, you tend to think Hollywood is going to do a junky job and screw it up. But you started to see a change in the audience over the course of the presentation.”
So take a good look at the pic above, because from the perspective of 2011, it’s about as alien as Aldebaran.
Awesomeness Personified

Walt Disney’s Los Feliz Woking Way residence is up for sale for $3,650,000. The property includes a private screening room where Disney watched dailies for Snow White, Fantasia, and Cinderella, and a Snow White-styled playhouse designed for his daughters.

Doc Oz Hutchison Creeps Out This Doc Oz
I’m telling you man. Doc Oz’s just can’t catch a break lately.
(FYI…I’m going to use the word creepy a lot in the next few paragraphs. You’ll understand why in just a second.)
First we have to deal with every cartoon dog and/or comic relief character being named Doc Oz. Then we have a stupid dance called “The Doc Ozie” taking over YouTube. But now things have been taken up a notch with this actor Doc Oz Hutchison. Who I vaguely remember playing a creepy character on Lost, marrying a 16 year old girl and seriously creeping me the hell out (especially at the 2:00 mark) in this creepy video I stumbled across over at BuzzFeed.
Now I really don’t care what this guy does. Seriously. Not one damn bit. My only problem is that Doc Oz’s are rare enough as it is. And this guy is taking our once noble (non-creepy) name and dragging it through some really creepy ass mud.
So…I wanted to share it with you good people and get it on the record that not all Doc Oz’s are creepy like this one Doc Oz is.
”Flying on the wings of love?” Seriously? She actually just said that? Yowsa.
Doctor Who Companions Infographic!
We here at MRR love Doctor Who.
And we love infographics.
So when we recieved an email a couple weeks back from a fellow Whovien named Muhammad Saleem, telling us about a new infographic that he and his team created, it was lke MRR cat nip! This is the team that created this previous awesome Who centric infographic by the way. Though I think it’s safe to say they out did themselves this go around!
It outlines the history of the Doctor’s companions. from the early adventures of the First Doctor, all the way to (our personal favorite) the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith. There’s a lot of great sidebars along the way too. So check it out below, and thanks again to Muhammad for sending it in!

It’s A GB Trap! Says Mattel
Hot off the presses! GBFans.com is reporting that Mattel is following up their successful PKE Meter replica from last year with…
A Ghost Trap!
No word yet on pricing, but a tentative release date of October 2011 has been given.
I for one can’t wait for this to become available! Long time reader will know that I already own a couple proton packs my wife and I built a few years ago, the full flight suits, and the PKE meter from last year’s Christmas. So what better way to complete my ghost catching ensemble than with this bad boy!
Now…what say you?
