Walking Dead Interview

TWD-Greg-Nicotero-560

AMCTV.com has a really wicked interview with Greg Nicotero, master of the modern zombie.

Here’s a quick snippet:

Q: You’ve been creating zombies for George Romero for years. What made you want to tackle The Walking Dead?

A: I’ve been best friends with Frank Darabont since before he directed The Shawshank Redemption, and we share a similar interest and nostalgic devotion to George Romero and Night of the Living Dead. We started talking about this project probably three or four years ago, when Frank was talking about wanting to do something different with zombies, and what we could do to make these guys look fresh and original. And from then on, it’s just been like, Hey man! We get to create zombies!

Q: How do these zombies differ from the ones you created for Romero?

A: We used the graphic novel certainly as inspiration. We’ve always tried to push the envelope, and because I’ve done so many other projects it’s always one of those things where you finish a movie and go, “Oh man next time I know how we can make it better. And after that I know how we can make it even better than that.” We’ve taken everything that we’ve learned on all these other projects, and applied them in terms of using new materials and new techniques – even something as simple as a zombie getting shot in the head: We really sat down and worked through the best way to make that look realistic and practical.

Dr. Who Rocks The Synthesizer (Happy Monday)

mattsmith

In one synthesizer fueled acid trip rendition of the 11th Doctor’s theme song, Matt Smith has officially tipped to scales to become my favorite Doctor…EVER. Sure David Tennent had the acting chops to take the stage as Hamlet, but Matt Smith took the stage with LASERS and techno. Is there even any doubt anymore how awesome the 11th Doctor is? I mean just look at that bow-tie!

Hey, Don’t Taze Xander Bro

029351-nicholas-brendon

Poor poor Xander, er I mean Nicholas Brendon. Last March he got drunk at a bar in Venice Beach, got a little rowdy and the cops were called. Brendon then resisted arrest by throwing a few punches and running away from Johnny Law. For anyone who’s ever watched “Cops”, then you probably already know how this story ends. But for those others…the officers then Tasered the hell out him.

He was charged with four misdemeanors — one count resisting arrest, two counts of battery against a police officer and one count of vandalism. Not sure where the vandalism charge came from, but I’d like to think that the cops were called because Brendon pee-wrote “XANDER RULES” in on the wall of the bar.

Like most stars in Hollywood though, he got lucky. Brendon was sentenced Saturday to 36 months probation and given a one year suspended sentence in county jail.

So speaking for the rest of the geeks around the world, for the next 36 months please stay out of trouble Xander! We’d like to keep you around for a while.

IT Crowd Sneak Peek

it_14

For everyone who doesn’t know what the IT Crowd is, I’m both sad and extremely excited for you.

I’m sad because you should know about this amazing show.

I’m excited because you get to watch it for the very first time!  I remember when Doc Oz recommended this show to me, I was working from home as an actual IT consultant.  As I watched these episodes I would just howl with laughter.  Remember what Stewie sounds like when he really laughs?  That’s kinda like how I laughed at this show it is so funny.  I could seriously watch this as much as I watch Spaced and never grow tired of it.

Good news for everyone, a while back I posted up that the IT Crowd had been renewed for a 4th series.  Well now Channel 4 is giving everyone across the pond a sneak peek at that episode!  For all us that watch the show here in the states there are some hoops you’ll have to jump through but it’s totally doable.

So sit back, and get ready to laugh on a Monday with Moss, Roy and Jen.

Watch it here.

More Walking Dead Goodies!

walkingdeadbdlogo061010

It feels like 3/4 of my posts as of late have all revolved around this groundbreaking tv show, but for good reason.  We’ve brought you casting news, makeup tests, and even a simulated gif showing the stages of decay.

Well our friends over at Bloody Disgusting have outdone themselves with this post.  Not only did they post up the “Zombie School” video, but they also got us a snapshot of one of the zombies from actual production!

And The Winner Is (Poll Results)…?

curtain

The battle was long. And virtual blood was spilled.

Super Mario Bros. Super Show? Dead.

Zelda? Run through with his own Sword of Hyrule.

Mega Man? Well lets just say you don’t want to see what happened to him.

But in the end One-Sheet lobbied (HARD), you voted, and the best video game based cartoon is…

Captain N: The Game Master!

As many of you know, I’ve got some mixed feelings about this write in winner. BUT…he won. Fair and square.

So congratulations Captain, you’re the people’s champion.

I hope your happy with what you’ve done, One-Sheet. You worked very hard to crown THIS the winner…

Doctor Who Rumor

lady_gaga_shows_off_another_of_her_crazy_outfits

Now, this one kinda of struck me as odd at first, but then after letting it sink in for a moment seems like it would work quite well.

Apparently Doctor Who might be getting a special guest from otherwordly pop sensation Lady Gaga.

That’s right people, Lady Gaga might soon be starring alongside with our favorite hero from Gallifrey.

According to Doctor Who scriptwriter Gareth Roberts:

She is no stranger to dressing up and would be more than a
match for the Doctor. It would be a great coup to get her

He also mentioned that he already has a plot line worked up for her guest appearance.

Doesn’t see like Gaga and the Doctor would have such a….bad romance, mwahahahaha.  Wait, wait, I can do better.  I think the Doctor will be able to maintain his…pokerface, mwah-lord I know too many Gaga song titles.

Thanks OK! Magazine

Captain N’ The Game Master

captainN

He may have lost the battle, but damnit, he’s going to win the war.  As the debate heats up between Doc Oz and I on the greatest video game cartoon ever created, I would like to submit into evidence…this blog.  It’s chock full of facts and maybe even a pie chart…MAYBE.

Now when I look back on my childhood, there are a few great shows that I remember dancing along with the theme tune to.  Yes, I used to dance with the theme tune!  There were the big classics, Thundercats, Silverhawks, X-Men, Ronin Warriors, The Real Ghostbusters, and of course Batman (Adam West Batman).  As I would get excited to watch these shows along with my glass of chocolate milk or Ecto Cooler and a PB&J sandwich there was one show that I loved, but never fully understood.  Captain N’ the Game Master.

Captain N’ originally premiered in Nintendo Power magazine.  His name was Captain Nintendo, and his arch nemesis was Mother Brain.  Captain Nintendo had the awesome power to grant life to characters and items from Nintendo games.  Thus the TV series was born.

It revolved around Kevin Keene, a teenage from Northridge neighborhood of LA.  He and his trusty dog Duke are summoned to Videoland by a portal in his TV while playing a rousing game of Mike Tyson Punch Out (assuming this was before the Mike Tyson ear biting incident).

When Kevin arrives in Videoland he realizes that Mother Brain, and her floating island Metroid, has almost conquered the Palace of Power and is close to ruling all of Videoland.  When the ruler of the Palace of Power, Princes Lana, is kidnapped by King Hippo and the Eggplant Wizard, Mother Brain’s lackeys, Kevin, along with the help of Kid Icarus, Simon Belmont, and Mega Man realize it is up to them to save Videoland.

Kevin is armed with some really awesome weapons to help him on his journey.  A power pad as his belt buckle that allows him to pause time, super jump, among other things, and the trusty Nintendo zapper.

Ok, if that show doesn’t sound like the coolest Nintendo show ever, just wait, I’m not done.  This show featured characters from some huge Nintendo hits.

Such as:

Donkey Kong

Count Dracula

Ganon

Princess Zelda

Link

Doctor Light

Doctor Wiley

Game Boy

They also used direct level scenarios in episodes as well…

Burger Time

California Games

Castlevainia

Donkey Kong

Final Fantasy

Mega Man

Metriod

Paper Boy

Super Mario

Super Mario 2

Tetris

Legend of Zelda

I mean HOW can anyone not call this the defining Nintendo show?  This show has complete level mock ups, music, and characters!  Plus the main premise was based around something we all wanted as a kid, to be transported INTO a Nintendo game and fight the bad guys for real!

Tell me, PLEASE, tell me how the Super Mario Brother’s Super Show is better than that?

They’re effing FLYING ON A GAME BOY!!!!

First Look- See How Zombies Will Decompose On Walking Dead

amcwalkingdead2-373x500

Recently we had a very exciting post on The Walking Dead.  Well, I think it just got so much cooler.  An i09 commenter too several still images of how the zombies will look as they decompose on the show and made a sweet gif image out of it.

Behold the decomposing zombie!

The Walk Dead Is Going To Kick Ass

amcwalkingdead1

Production on The Walking Dead has started as of today in Atlanta, and AMC has released some awesome pictures, and a very cool video of Frank discusses his inspiration for doing a series about zombies.

The Walking Dead is based off of Robert Kirkman’s comic of the same title.  The story follows a group of survivors looking for a safe home after a zombie outbreak.  The six episode first season is being directed by Frank Darabont and produced by Gale Anne Hurd.

Thanks Superherohype

Be A Zombie On The Walking Dead

The-Walking-Dead1

This is really, really exciting stuff.  We’ve been reporting on The Walking Dead casting progress as the big named actor roles were cast.  Now there is some even more exciting news that you can really gear up for, especially if you live in the Atlanta area.

According to On Location Vacations, Frank Darabont and his crew will be shooting in the Fairlie-Poplar District of Atlanta.  If you aren’t familiar with the comic that is where the first few issues of the comic take place.

What are the rules and regulations for becoming immortalized as a zombie?  OLV says:

The final scenes of the pilot episode and scenes for the second episode would be filmed during daylight hours over the course of two (2) weekends. The first weekend would be scheduled for June 11–13; the second weekend is scheduled for July 2–4. [...] In the meantime, the production company is still looking for extras to appear as zombies in the series.

But, all extras must attend ZOMBIE SCHOOL! All of the “zombies’ who have been chosen so far have been put through the paces and have already been attending “class” all week, they’ve also been told they can’t discuss anything about the production and may be fired for even the slightest hint about the production on Twitter, FB, etc.

If you think you can handle being a zombie, you can email your information to twdextras@gmail.com, you will need to have a “flexible schedule” from June to September.

So pack your bags, practice your groans, and get out there!
